Special Care & Medication

Some cats need a little more.

Some cats need medication, injections or a little extra care as part of their daily routine at home, when recovering from illness or surgery or after being discharged from hospital.

Maison du Chat can help with these additional needs through trained sitters who follow your cat’s individual care plan based on your instructions. We make sure our sitters are comfortable carrying out the care your cat needs, with our veterinarian available to support them.

So you can go to work, keep your plans, or simply take some time for yourself, knowing your cat’s care is in good hands.

Can we help with the care your cat needs?

Medication and treatments that form part of an established home-care routine can usually be incorporated into a regular Maison du Chat visit, or provided through a Medication & Care Visit.

Routine Medication

If you normally give your cat medication at home, we can help you keep their routine going when you can’t be there.

This can include:

  • Pills and liquid medication
  • Eye or ear drops
  • Creams and other topical treatments
  • Inhalers
  • Simple physiotherapy exercises demonstrated by you

Additional Care Needs

For cats who need a little more support as part of their usual home routine.

Examples

  • Insulin injections
  • Subcutaneous fluids
  • Medication that needs to be given several times a day
  • Care following illness, surgery or hospitalisation
  • Physiotherapy exercises demonstrated by the owner
  • Other treatments or care routines you may need help with

Care planned around your cat

If there is something your cat needs that we haven’t mentioned, please ask.

We’re happy to discuss it with you.

  • For cats with additional care needs, we establish an individual care plan before the first visit with a Meet & Greet.

  • You show us exactly how you normally provide the care and what is important to watch for. Your sitter then follows your instructions and your cat’s individual care plan. Our veterinarian is available to support the sitter with any questions or concerns.

  • If your cat’s care needs to happen at a specific time, we arrange the visit around that requirement. It will not simply be scheduled at any point within our usual visit window.

With the right support, you can get on with your day, go to work or simply take some time for yourself, knowing your cat’s usual care is being taken care of at home.

A standalone service

Medication & Care Visit

Sometimes you simply need someone you trust to help with a specific part of your cat’s usual care routine.

Our Medication & Care Visit is a standalone visit for medication or another agreed care requirement.

You don’t need to be travelling.

The visit is planned around the specific care your cat needs at that time. Alongside the agreed treatment, your sitter will keep a careful eye on how your cat is doing and can pay particular attention to anything you have asked us to look out for.

They will record what was done and send you an update afterwards.

Medication & Care Visits are non-veterinary home-care visits. They do not replace veterinary advice, diagnosis or treatment.

Veterinary expertise behind the service

Most ongoing treatments for cats are carried out every day by their families at home.

Our role is to help maintain those established routines when you cannot be there or if you need an extra hand.

Veronica's veterinary background helps us build our training and care standards around:

  • Safe medication handling
  • feline behaviour and stress
  • observing appetite, drinking and litter habits
  • recognising meaningful changes in a cat's condition
  • knowing when a situation should be escalated
  • helping sitters follow client’s instructions consistently

Before a sitter carries out additional care, you explain exactly what needs to be done and how you normally medicate or support your cat.

  • We make sure the sitter is comfortable with the agreed routine and knows what to look out for before providing the care independently in your home.
  • The sitter then follows your instructions and the agreed care plan, with Maison du Chat available if questions or concerns arise.

Working within your cat’s treatment plan

We follow the treatment plan exactly as agreed with you. We don’t change it.

Your veterinarian remains responsible for your cat’s diagnosis and medical treatment. Maison du Chat works from the care routine already established for your cat, following your instructions carefully and consistently.

Our role is to support the care already in place

We can carry out agreed treatments and care routines, but our service does not include making medical decisions. This means that we:

  • follow the agreed medication, dosage and schedule
  • carry out care routines as you have shown us
  • keep a careful eye on how your cat is doing and share any concerns
  • only undertake care that our trained team can carry out safely and appropriately
  • do not diagnose or prescribe
  • do not change dosages or treatment plans
  • do not replace your veterinarian or provide veterinary treatment

For more complex cases, we may ask for clear written instructions from your cat’s treating veterinarian before accepting the care, so that everyone is working from the same plan.

Tell us what your cat needs.

If your cat takes medication, lives with a chronic condition or has recently returned home from hospital, tell us about their usual care routine.

We’ll talk through what your cat needs with you and let you know how Maison du Chat can support you with their care, safely and reliably.

There’s no obligation to book after your Meet & Greet.
